Downriver Park Spotlight: Thorn Park

By Blair Stamper, Macaroni Kid Downriver Publisher September 17, 2018

Sometimes, you just have to get out of the house.  Sometimes, playing in the backyard just isn’t enough.  Since moving Downriver, I’ve been blown away with the amount of parks in the area.  What’s even better?  Each park has their own quirks and features that make it special.  This is why I have decided to start a monthly Downriver Park spotlight.

Thorn Park - Brownstown, MI

This month's featured park is Thorn Park.  Thorn Park is located at the corner of King Rd and Telegraph Rd in Brownstown.  There is lots of parking and is located right near the event center for Brownstown, which makes having parties and events very convenient.

What do I love about the Park?

This past summer, we visited Thorn Park for the first time.  I was BLOWN AWAY with how many different things there are for kids.  First, there is safety town, which is basically a mini town for kids.  My daughter loved crawling all over the different areas.  Even better is that each little "house" is sponsored by a local business!  What a great opportunity to teach kids about their community while having fun at the same time!

Second, there is a baby area for kids to play as well as a HUGE play area for the big kids.  There are plenty of swings, slides, things to climb, and lots of areas to run around.

Finally, and probably the most favorite thing of kids, is the splash pad.  The splash pad is open Memorial Day to Labor Day and is $2 per person, per session.

Other Features

  • Movies in the Park during the Summer
  • Concerts in the Park during the Summer
  • Lockers to store bags
  • Air-conditioned Bathrooms
  • Free Library
  • Sandbox
