A Parade of Elephants will March You to Bed

A Sponsored Book Review

By Blair Stamper, Macaroni Kid Downriver Publisher September 30, 2018

My daughter loves books.  Her favorite past time is sitting on the ground just flipping through book pages.  She could literally do this for hours.  Each night, we read 2-3 books before bedtime and she is engaged in every story, looking at the pictures, and tracking the words.  My daughter also loves animals, especially giraffes and elephants.  I'm sure this can be attributed to the fact that all of her stuffed animals and her whole room is safari themed.  Because of all of this this, I knew I had to read "A Parade of Elephants" by Kevin Henkes with her.

"A Parade of Elephants" is a story about elephants marching around all day.  Where will they go?  What is the mission?  You'll have to read the book to find out!

While reading this book, my daughter loved looking at the engaging pictures made with pastel colors and dark lines - perfect for little's eyes.  The font was big enough that while I read, I could point to the words as I read them to encourage her to track.  Later, when she begins to learn how to read, we will use this book to practice.  The text on each page is in small chunks, perfect for sounding out for a young reader.

What I love about this book is how it isn't just a great bedtime story.  This book provides an educational opportunity by providing rhyming,  numbers 1-5, mentions of opposites such as up/down, in/out, and over/under.  Plus, how cute is the book after the jacket is taken off?
