Being a Downriver mom, I'm always looking for local small businesses to support. Whether this be bakeries, restaurants, coffee shops, LuLaRoe, essential oils, skincare, and so much more! I've decided to focus on one business each month I have supported and to share my wonderful experiences.
Someone once said to me, "it is hard to find a good Downriver bakery." And it is true. Don't get me wrong, I love Kroger and Costco cakes for those last-minute cupcakes for work, or a last minute birthday party. But, I also love supporting small Downriver businesses. This is how I found S & J's Cupcakery.
In my search for the perfect bakery for my daughter's first birthday, I came across a little local bakery. After some research, I found that they worked out of their home in Flat Rock. This completely won me over. I knew I had to support a local Flat Rock business.
Right from the beginning, they were kind and helpful. When I first messaged them, I honestly had no clue the type of cake that I wanted. Sure, I had found examples of stuff I "liked" on Pinterest, but I wasn't sure if they could or would even want to replicate that. After some back and forth messaging, we were able to narrow down my selections for the cake smash pictures and the party. That is right. They were able to completely figure out my order through Facebook messenger. Talk about a win for me, someone who HATES talking on the phone!
The week of the pictures, they messaged me to select a time for pick-up. They basically let me pick whatever time I wanted to pick up the cake. This was beyond convenient because I knew I had to drive over an hour for the pictures, and they were willing to accommodate that. When I picked up the cake, they helped me carry it out to my car and gave advice for making sure it didn't fall over. Talk about calming my nerves down! They must have known I was beyond worried about it getting ruined!
The same exact thing happened when it was time for her party. They messaged me the week of and let me pick the time for pick-up. Helped me carry the cake to the car, and we had a great conversation!
In addition to being an amazing all-around Downriver business, their cakes are AMAZING! I attended their Taste of Fall event and oh my gosh. For $2, I was able to get one of the most delicious pumpkin cupcakes I have ever had. And that is saying a lot, because I am a pumpkin snob!
So, next time you need a Downriver bakery, I HIGHLY suggest S & J's Cupcakery.
