How to become a contestant on Nickelodeon's 'Double Dare' reboot

The live show is coming to Detroit

If you were lucky enough to be a child during the 1980s and 90s, you're likely familiar with Nickelodeon's popular game show Double Dare. During each half-hour episode two teams would compete for cash by answering trivia questions and competing in messy physical challenges that seemed to involve a startling amount of raw eggs, as well as "boogers," slime, and cream pie. Mmmm.

The original show was hosted by the well-coiffed Marc Summers and ran from 1986 to 1993, and a brief revival was launched in 2000, but it lasted less than a year.

Well, friends, Double Dare is back and it's hitting the road. The tour includes a number of U.S. cities including Detroit, where it will stop on May 15.

Summers will return as host (his hair is gray now, but still quite fabulous), and much like the original show, contestants will answer "brain-bending" trivia questions and get pelted with raw eggs (we're assuming).

If this is bringing back memories of the inevitable envy we all felt for the kids who got to run in each episode's final obstacle course, we have some good news for you: You have one more chance to become a Double Dare contestant.

First things first — you'll need to purchase tickets to the Detroit show, which will take place at the Fox Theatre. Tickets for that show go on sale on Friday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. Then, you will need to read the official rules and fill out a waiver on the website before heading out to the show. Once you get to the show, you'll visit the registration table, verify that you have completed the waiver, and provide a photo ID. You and your family members will be given wrist bands that will signal to show hosts that you are eligible to be called on stage. Contestant hopefuls are encouraged to wear athletic shoes if they hope to be chosen.

And that's it.

Oh, and here's a link to a full episode from the original Double Dare series, because who here doesn't have a craving for a heaping helping of nostalgia now?
